turning point
We may not have completely finished pulling things out But today it feels like we turned a corner because we have started to put things back into the house!
Tom our trusty sparky came and spent a full day putting in a new consumer unit and moving things around so we didn’t have to crawl to get to the breakers and cock our heads sideways to read the meter.
He also had time to put in a new circuit for our temporary kitchen and trial run how all our sockets and switches will be mounted. It’s industrial galvanised conduit which will run down the front or whatever wall finishes we decide on.

As is seemingly customary with this house the day didn’t pass without a surprise. I’d got the plummers to come back to remove 6 radiator so I didn’t muck it up md cause a massive leak. Anyway they came and removed them but long after they left I realised 3 valves were leaking excessively. I managed to cap off two that were weeping at the compression fitting with my trusty pipe cutter and a couple of stop ends. But the kitchen rad was leaking through a thermostatic valve. Long story short when I fiddled with it the thermostatic part separated from the valve and released all the hot water the boiler could pump at me. Now soaking wet I held my thumb over the valve and considered my options.
I grabbed a bucket about the only thing in reach and placed it where I thought some of the fountain of water might land.
Then I let go of valve and ran to the boiler and turned off the electric. I could feel water hitting the kitchen ceiling. Then I slid across to the water stopcock and started to turn it off. If only it wasn’t behind and underneath the joint of two kitchen units with very little space to grip the tap. Thankfully buy now the flow has stopped. And although it has sprayed everything in the kitchen most of the water had seeped straight through the floor to the concrete slab below.
Thankfully I had one stop nut leftover that fitted right on, so I was able to get the heating back on and hopefully help dry out the under floor and have a hot shower.

And yep the massive rad it supplies was one bolted to the panel that itself was only stuck to 6 layers of DIY madness behind it.
