sunroom fun
As we sort of expected the conservatory rear extension is all a bit of a bodge on a bodge type of thing.
Thankfully it’s mostly built under the big main roof overhang so is mostly watertight, save the area over the back door directly under the bottom of the valley gutter, that’s leaking badly in heavy rain. Unfortunately fixing that will have to wait until we re-roof after we’ve sold other house.
So as far as we can see, there were two stages of this extension, first the infill of the eves overhang, which appears to be done to a reasonable DIY standard, and then later it was absolutely butchered with terrible shoddy bodging to fit the weirdly low height UPVC double glazing units to the eves wall and adding the plastic roofed box extension and a plastic back door.
We had decided to follow the same ethos as the rest of the house and strip back all the layers of DIY until we get to the good solid original framework… unfortunately here we had to re-work all the stud framing as there was little rigidity left. We also managed to remove a huge boxed in column section that didn’t seem to serve any useful purpose.
Will has put some new CLS in to tie in the back door (that was secured to nothing but plywood) and what was left of the good stud work.
Outside we’ve ripped off the many layers of “stuff” and gone back to a layer of plywood that we just plan to paint black for now at least.
The basic plan inside is to get some insulation up in the roof and a vapour barrier in and then T&G directly over that (as per the ceiling in the main house)

And today the main components for the cabin arrived, which they hope to build next week.

We have also started trying to tackle the garden. But I think that needs heavy plant and equipment 😂
