more bedroom discoveries
How has it been over a week since I last updated? Time has flown by because we’ve been so busy.
First off, we discovered all the lovely old T&G we wanted to save in the front bedroom had been cut to facilitate fitting the horrible cupboard fitted units. So we decided to strip it all out as it’s too much work to save. We’ll re-do with lovely new T&G.
Next up we moved back into the main bedroom. We decided we had to at least look behind the various panels. None of them looked original but they were at least solid old chipboard.
Yep that’s brick slips. Tile like bricks like we’d seen the the Puutalo Brochure and in the old entrance way (now the utility cupboard). Rather an odd choice for a bedroom but that seems to be the theme here.
Unfortunately when we pulled the panels off the big wall we only found the remains left behind after they slips has been removed. Wow the bedroom must have looked fab with all the brick and mirrors. 😜
So after we removed most of the panels from the other big wall we came to the conclusion the huge ugly wardrobe had to go despite being the only large cupboard left in the house. Just in case there was something fun hidden behind it.
There wasn’t but there was about 20cm of unused space behind it.
Before we left that day we had to see it there were more tiles behind the flimsy panels in the corridor. Of course there were!
We have now decided where the log cabin is going to go. Up by house where the old shed was. Hopefully they will be able to work around the concrete base of the old shed because it would be a huge task to break up and remove and extending it would probably not work so well as pad foundations because of all the tree roots.
While I had my back turned D started on the Sunroom and pulled out Bar No2. So obviously we have to remove all the shiny mdf flooring from the walls and investigate the layers underneath …yep that’s correct. Even the plastic conservatory has a tiled wall 🤦♂️ ugh!
And by heck did they put up a fight as I tried to remove then. They were mounted on flimsy thin chipboard which just wobbled as I tried to remove them with the trusty ruggadugga sds hammer chisel.
Eventually they were all off. We’ve relented and ordered a skip for all he tiles, which is coming tomorrow.
So then the other ply panels out the sunroom had to come off. Unfortunately they had been stuck to the original T&G which is breaking apart however carefully I try to separate it from the panels. We’ll have to see if it’s salvageable once I’ve finished removing things.
Today the gas man came to service and certify the huge gas fire on the living room that we thought might need to be condemned.
Nope! He’s been servicing gas fires for 20 years and has never seen one this big. It’s in perfect like new condition and the flue is massively oversized for it, although unlike log burners that is not a problem. It passed the smoke draw test well before it had fully warmed up the flue. “Just remember to open up the flue flap and fit a co detector and enjoy watching £10notes disappear up the chimney. And I’ll see you next year” were his departing words.
