Maple Flooring

Will our new builder went on a 250 mile round trip to collect some secondhand maple floorboards for us and dropped them off Monday. What a trouper.

The boards well worn, and filthy with years of dirt encrusted into the groves. It’s heavily impacted and it is like removing concrete. But they will come up nice when/ if we refinish the floor. And it shows just how much abuse this maple flooring can take.

We thought we had a whole week to prep the kitchen for the floor to go in but we misunderstood and Will was coming back today to fit the floors.

So Donna put in a marathon shift yesterday pealing all the tile adhesive and other miscellaneous gunk off the kitchen walls. It’s physically exhausting work. And after cleaning and prepping some boards for Will to fit this morning I ripped out the sink and finished the bits of the kitchen Donna couldn’t reach.

Will got the two sections of missing bedroom floor, where there used to be fitted wardrobes, filled in beautifully. I quite like the well worn and different coloured boards. They certainly tell a story. They will mostly be covered by wardrobe anyway.

Will is back tomorrow to do kitchen floor and I hope help fit the new (to us) sink unit. Unless we / the house has scared him off 🤣
