kitchen investigation

Today D and our neighbour came over again and we started to remove some of the huge heavy panels in the kitchen. We’d thought they were so ugly and robust they had to be original. But they seems to beidge areas we knew had been altered or removed.

Nope they were chunky because someone thought its was better to hold up two layers of panels with two layers of ceramic tiles on the top rather than just removing everything and starting again. There are two coats of paint under all that too. So that’s 7 redecoration / alterations in 50 years.

We did find some nice tiles amongst the shambles but they are either on boards that have to come out or stuck on top of other tiles so I don’t think there will be any worth saving. The may provide inspiration though. And it looks like the shiny metal ceiling will be coming down too. The boxing around it is built off stuff that coming or falling out. It’s flimsy ply anyway.

Outside the guys have been back to extend the park area so we can get around the car port with vans and the camper has a place to live.

After the girls left I attacked the shower cubicle and utility cupboard so they are now gone. There were some fantastic little tiles on top of the dwarf wall that is all that’s left of the original electrical cubby. Rather annoyingly the end has been hacked off so I’ll have to rebuild that too.
