Will has been very busy. It’s been a joy to have him here powering through some of the numerous jobs that need doing, while I sort out my mum‘s estate matters as well as managing this refurbishment as well as DIYing as much as we can.

To bring us up-to-date with what’s been going on outside in the garden, we now have a view of the sky above the big house to the southeast where they removed the tops of our conifer trees last week.

We have also had our landscaper and tree guy back out again to quote for removing all the gravel in the rear yard and turning it back into grass, and advice on what we can do with the various trees and shrubs.

Will sorted the kitchen floor so we have a full maple floor now. With sections that are easy to lift if we need access if there’s a flood or something. And we slid a couple of the units into place to see if they fitted.

After Will left Donna arrived and we moved all the units into the kitchen to doublecheck she was happy with the layout and everything. The two separate kitchens we bought all fit perfectly in the space we have available. And our huge kitchen window is filled beautifully by the two large sink units.

The very first plumbing shop we popped into to look at taps just happen to have one pair of kitchen taps on the shelf which were exactly what we were looking for. We went for separate taps because we have found the high water pressure means it’s very difficult to set the temperature and flow rate correctly with a mono block tap. IMG_0483 IMG_0484

Saturday was supposed to be my day off, we had a nice walk and went for a drive back to near the house so we popped in to put up some temporary net curtains in the living room.

It was such a nice day. I thought I’d go outside and chainsaw down the hedge so that I have a view into the far corner of the garden where the guys cleared the trees last week. Much better I think.

Today we ordered 300 square metres of tongue and groove which will be here tomorrow and then Will and I started to strip out the many many layers of tiles and flooring in the bathroom ready for the refit.

I was very glad that I had pre-ordered a pizza for 6 o’clock as I think I might have carried on dismantling the bathroom all night if I hadn’t. It was absolutely delicious. Even if the toppings had slid off slightly as I carried it and my beer home.
