2nd & 3rd October update
Sorry for the radio silence but I’ve been struggling to upload photos over the very poor mobile data network at the new place.
I think I found a solution to this by adding another eSIM contract to my phone and this network seems to be slightly less slow. But it’s still very much hit or miss when it comes to uploading stuff so please bear with me if I go silent again.
So the 2nd of October was pretty much a wipeout for me because I was struck down by a migraine which meant I couldn’t get on with anything. Fortunately the guys outside seem to have no such problems and cracked on with a laughing and joking and work and by the end of the day had more or less deconstructed the shed and there was a huge pile of decking which has mostly been removed from the garden.
The 3rd of October started slowly for me again as I still hadn’t quite shaken off the migraine, but the guys were back to finish clearing up. They have done a fantastic job and I can’t wait to have them back. They will be doing all the garden and driveway and tree work for us. It was lovely to hear them all laughing and joking and having a good time as they’ve worked and it’s very quiet here now they have gone.
By about midday, I was feeling a little better and the new bits arrived for my hammer chisel so I set about trying to get the disgusting ceramic and mirror tiles off of the master bedroom wall. I need not have worried, having the right tool for the job made lite work of it and the whole lot came down in about quarter of an hour. The ceramic tiles in the second bedroom were slightly harder to get off as they used so much adhesive goo but they were down before lunchtime. And I have now got a huge pile of tiles and smashed mirror to get rid of. I’m pretty sure the entire main corridor is tiled both sides and at some point, I’ll need to take them off too, but that can wait.
I was about to settle for for a nice lunch when suddenly out of the blue the guys turned up to run the fibre cable to the house. It was very lucky I was here and able to stop them running the cable right over the top of next door‘s house from the telegraph pole the other side of my neighbours property. They weren’t quite sure what they were going to do instead so we’re going to report back to the service provider. Having spoken to them obviously they preferred to hang a cable and go on the ground so I’ve been waiting for two days for them to come back and do a proper survey and work out whether we can have enough clearance and hang the cable over the main road to the telegraph pole directly opposite the house. It seems nothing is straightforward in this house!
During the afternoon, I finished ripping out the bracing that put in to support the cupboards in a second bedroom. And the plumbers came back to have another look at the boiler because it’s been losing pressure. Thankfully it seems to just be some crud in the PCV probably found its way there while they were flushing the system.
I don’t think I’ve found any more surprises and had a nice hot shower. Well, not hot because I think the thermostatic mixer is stuck at nicely warm, but just a little bit hotter would be nice, so I think that’ll need replacing too.
It’s all feeling a little daunting, but I am really enjoying this and the chilling in the evening with a beer and some music.
I was due to go (other) home tonight but the fibre cable guys didn’t turn up and may well turn up tomorrow and I want to be here to stop them trying to run the cable over my neighbour again. I’ve done a big Screwfix order which will hopefully arrive in time for me to get some more work done rather than wasting a day waiting for them to probably not turn up.
